With the collaboration of the teacher Irene Roncero Ponce from Colegio Santa Rita, an experiment on the Quizstory program has been carried out, which is explained below. Irene is a teacher of Music, Education in Civic and Ethical Values and Philosophy in ESO, and collaborator of Vanesa Galán Simón (see the other entry about Colegio Santa Rita in this same section). Within the subject of music and in collaboration with the subject of history, the school has developed the participation of the school in this program of the Community of Madrid, whose objective is the development of some podcasts of historical content from the video game Quizstory on American independence.
The study consisted of taking a pretest and posttest tasks and qualitative analysis of the podcasts produced, from the framework of the studies of learning and teaching of history, the development of historical thinking and decolonization studies.
The video game ‘Quizstory’.
During this academic year 24-25, the Community of Madrid has developed the second edition of a Podcast contest aimed at secondary school students on the basis of a video game entitled Quizstory, designed under the auspices of the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute and the Royal Academy of History.
The objective of the contest is for groups of 3-4 students to create short, freely scripted podcasts about certain situations or characters related to the historical moment of the American Revolution. The ultimate goal of the game (and of the podcast contest) is to reflect on and highlight the role of Spain in the American Revolutionary process, analyzing the Spanish characters who intervened in the set of interests in a complex scenario in which there were five conflicting powers: the self-styled American ‘patriots’; the colonial power, England, to the east; France, to the north; the Native Americans, to the west; and Spain, to the south.
The purpose is to recognize the fundamental role of Spain and thousands of Hispanics in the founding of the United States of America as a free and independent nation. The game proposes to learn through this game in which you must unlock hidden treasures and secret supplies that will lead the American rebels towards independence. Quizstory: Spanish Friendship invites you to travel back in time to the Thirteen Colonies in 1775, shortly before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To live a fascinating twelve-year adventure where you can meet Spanish heroes such as Bernardo de Galvez and Diego de Gardoqui. Your participation will be essential to help George Washington and his rebel army. During the journey, you will visit places in America where important events of the War of Independence took place. To unlock the supply chests and support the rebel army you must correctly answer the tests related to each place on the map, to get medicines, textiles, weapons and ammunition, money, … It is a game designed by teachers and historians with the highest academic rigor to provide quality content tailored to the educational needs of students of history of primary and secondary students.
